How do you make a ‘Perfect’ Manhattan cocktail? If you think it’s by using both sweet and dry vermouth, you’d be wrong.

You make the ‘Perfect’ Manhattan the same way you make the perfect Black Forest Cake, perfect crepes, and perfect Cherry Galettes: Use Guinettes Cherries.

These ultimate brandied cherries are made in France by Distillerie du Perigord, a company with more than 150 years of award-winning products and reputation for quality and innovation. Perhaps fittingly, the company was founded in 1860, the same year the classic Manhattan cocktail is thought to have been invented by a New York Bartender.

Distillerie du Perigord began specializing in making macerated fruit products in 1980 and saw an explosion of demand soon after.

Morello Cherries

These dark red, pleasantly tart cherries are hand-cultivated at peak ripeness, pitted, then inspected for uniformity, plumpness and quality. Extremely sour off the tree, these Morello cherries are sweetly tamed and infused with flavour that makes them irresistible right out of the jar or as a garnish for cocktails and desserts. Try one and you’ll never settle for a squishy, over-sweet Maraschino cherry again.

Kirsch

Distillerie du Perigord has been making award-winning French ‘eaux de vie’ since they opened in 1860. The clear, colorless fruit brandy is made by double distilling whole Morello cherries. The resulting liquid takes on a subtle cherry flavour with an almond-esque finish achieved by fermenting the pits as well. It’s an elegant, refined liqueur that takes a more nuanced flavour approach than the overwhelming sweetness typically found in other cherry liqueurs. More commonly known as ‘Kirsch,’ the drink was originally produced in the Black Forest area of Germany, but it has been perfected by the innovative craftsmen at Distillerie du Perigord.

Surrounded by Medieval castles, quaint villages and picturesque farmland in Southwestern France, the Perigord region is home to Distillerie du Perigord. The rich culinary traditions of the area have also brought foie gras and truffles to the world. This is the setting that has inspired Diistillerie du Perigord to craft some of the world’s finest ‘eaux de vie’ since 1860, and now, produce the world’s finest brandied cherries.
